How to make a pallet planter

Making a planter out of pallets? Here’s our expert guide to building a pallet herb garden, a great way to recycle old timber and accessorise your garden with a personal cottagecore touch. Read on to find out how to create your own DIY pallet planter, with our step by step guide, and spruce up your exteriors with homemade furnishings in your favourite refreshing shade.

You will need:

·Wooden pallet

·A hammer, crowbar or pallet tool

·Drill and screws

·Rust-Oleum Garden Paint

·Paint stirrer

·A small brush

·Compost bags

·Compost

·Plants

Step 1

First, to make a pallet planter, take your pallet apart with a hammer, crowbar or pallet tool, making sure to remove any leftover nails in the wood.

Step 2

Add three ‘slats’ to the bottom of each ‘rung’ to create a shelf, using a drill and screws. Do not cover the holes between blocks as these will be where you place your plants.

Step 3

After stirring, use a brush to paint your planter with Rust-Oleum Garden Paint, ensuring to follow the grain of the wood, and allow to dry. This planter has been painted with warm, earthy green Bramwell for that relaxed homely feel.

Step 4

Line each planter with old compost bags, using a staple gun to keep them in place. Add compost to each of your planters and select your favourite herbs or flowers. Don’t forget to water them!

And that's it!

You now have your own unique, vertical pallet planter to add a little floral cheer to your exterior spaces. With over 100 stunning colours to choose from, our Garden Paint can be used on wood, stone, brick, plaster and other outdoor surfaces, so you can revamp everything from your patio furniture to children’s playhouses.
