How to use Rust-Oleum Matt Finish Floor Tile Paint

Technical Data - Rust-Oleum Washable Matt Floor Tile Paint

Before you start: Remove all furniture from the area that you are painting. Protect skirting boards or areas that you don’t want to paint with masking tape or dustsheets. Protect hands and eyes with disposable gloves and protective eyeglasses.

Preparation: For best results, ensure surface is thoroughly clean and free from contamination. Use sugar soap equivalent to remove all traces of contamination, rinse surface afterwards with water. Treat any mould or mildew with a proprietary mould killer and remover in accordance with the manufactureres instructions. Make good any repairs to failing grouting. There is no need to use a primer with Rust-Oleum Washable Matt Floor Tile Paint. Ensure tiles and grout are completely dry before you start painting them.

Application: Apply when temperature is between 10 and 30ºC. Add the activator to the base and stir thoroughly until the mixture is uniform. Use the product within 5 days of mixing. The product may be applied by brush or roller. We recommend using a paint brush for the edges and in between tiles to ensure paint reaches all areas evenly, including grout and using a short to medium pile mohair roller to apply the paint to the rest of the surface for a smooth finish. Two coats are recommended. Spray application is not recommended.

Tip: Remember to start at the furthest wall away from the entrance and move backwards towards the door- thus leaving a clear exit when painting. It is important that, once activated, the paint must be used within 5 days – after this time it will thicken up and become unusable.

Coverage: Up to 14m2 / litre per coat. Coverage may vary depending upon method and rate of application and porosity of surface.

Drying Time: Touch dry in 1 hour. Hard dry in 4 hours. May be over coated after 4 hours. Full cure achieved after 7 days – take extra care during use in this time. Drying times are based at a temperature of 20oC with a good air flow, lower temperatures and poor air flow will prolong drying times.

Clean Up: Remove as much product as possible from application equipment before washing with water. Do not empty into drains or water courses. Some local authorities have special facilities for the disposal of waste coatings.

After Care: Try to limit water contact during the first few days after application until paint achieves full cure. Do not use abrasive cleaners to clean the product, use mild detergent solution and a damp cloth only.

Limitations: Not for use directly onto metal. Not a stain blocking product. If unsure, test on an inconspicuous area before painting. Some items may stain the product, remove any spills immediately to stop this or minimize the effect. Not suitable for slate or quarry tiles. Not recommended for outdoor use or areas subject to heavy wear such as garage floors.
